Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Health & Social Care

Subject Overview

The Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Health & Social Care provides students with an engaging introduction to the health, social care and early years sectors. The qualification develops students' understanding of human growth and development, health and wellbeing, and the services that support individuals throughout life. It combines theoretical knowledge with vocational application, enabling learners to develop transferable skills including communication, problem-solving, research and evaluation.

Course Structure

Component 1: Human Lifespan Development

  • Physical, intellectual, emotional and social development
  • Life stages and significant life events
  • Factors affecting growth and development

Component 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values

  • Health and social care services
  • Barriers to accessing services
  • Care values and person-centred approaches

Component 3: Health and Wellbeing

  • Factors affecting health and wellbeing
  • Interpreting health indicators
  • Designing health improvement plans

Assessment consists of internally assessed coursework components and an externally assessed component.

Our Health & Social Care curriculum aims to:
